HAND TILES

Use 6x6 white tiles and acrylic paint. Students stamp hand on tile. Use little felt squares on each back corner to prevent scratching. Spray with clear sealer. These will make a great gift.

CORNSTARCH CLAY HANDPRINTS

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
2/3 cup warm water
Mix baking soda and cornstarch in a saucepan; add water and stir until
smooth.
Over medium heat, continue to stir until the mixture is like mashed potatoes.
Pour onto board to cool.
When cool knead.
Makes 1 1/2 cups.
Doubles well.

Made a ball of clay, press into a flat circle and press hand into clay.

After handprint is stamped and the print has dried, spray paint or paint with a brush.

Fingerprints

My dirty little fingerprints
I've left on every wall,
And on the drawers and table tops,
I've really marked them all.
But here is one that won't rub off,
I'm giving it to you,
Because I'm thankful for a (mother or father) just like you!

 Fingerprints

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small,
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.
But everyday I am growing,
-I'll be grown up someday,
And all these tiny handprints
Will simply fade away.
So here's a final handprint
Just so you can recall,
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.
I love you!

I used my thumb and fingers too
To make this flower just for you.
It doesn't smell, it doesn't grow.
It's from me to let you know;
Love you (Mom or Dad)?
Love you not?
Love you, (Mom or Dad)!
Love you a lot!

A Reminder

This is to remind you
When I have grown so tall,
That once I was quite little
And my hands were very small.

Handprint

Here is my hand
So tiny, so small
to hang somewhere
upon your wall.

This is my hand.
My hand will do
A 1000 loving things for you
And you will remember
When I am tall...
That once my hand
Was just this small.
This is the hand
You used to hold
When I was only
__ years old.

My Hand

I give my hand
to you this day!
Remember me now,
as I grow and play!

Here are my hands, so helpful and small,
For you to hang upon the wall.
So you can watch, as years go by,
How we grow....my hand and I.

Tiny Handprints

Tiny handprints grow so fast
Their awkward groping soon will clasp
A ball, a book, a sweetheart's hand
A diploma, briefcase, wedding band.

Tiny handprints grow so strong
It doesn't take them very long
To snap a shirt, to paint, to draw
To labor hard, to drive a car.

Tiny handprints grow to be
A person that is quite unique
A wonderful mix of so many things
With his own feelings, thoughts and dreams...

Meredith Harris

Here my handprints are done
For everyone to view
I had so much fun
Doing this for you.

So look upon this handprint plaque
Hanging on your wall,
And memories will come back
Of me when I was small.

A piece of me
I give to you.
I painted this flower
To say "I love you."

The heart is you.
The hand is me.
To show we are friends--
the best there can be.

I hope you will save it
And look back someday
At the flower we shared
On your special day.

Kathleen Lademan

There used to be so many
of my finger prints to see,
on furniture and walls and things
from sticky, grubby me.

But if you stop to think a while
you'll see I'm growing fast.
those little hand prints disappear,
you can't bring back what's passed.

So here's a small reminder
to keep, not wipe away,
of tiny hands and how they looked,
to make you smile one day.

Sticky hands and fingers,
Marks left on the wall,
Doors left swinging open,
Muddy footprints in the hall.

Children leave their traces,
Never thinking twice
That Mom and Dad must clean up
With bleach and paint and ice.

It's often cause for heartache
When Mom's left with the task,
But sons and daughters sometimes
Just forget to ask.

But how we miss those clean-ups
When the hallways clear,
And we're left with only memories
Of the sticky handprints dear.

'Cause kids don't just leave handprints,
You realize through your tears --
They're handprints on the heart, Mom,
And they don't disappear.

-- Kathy Dix, March 29, 2000

You always
clean the fingerprints
I leave upon the wall.
I seem to make a mess of things
Because I am so small.
The years will pass so quickly
I'll soon be grown like you
And all my little fingerprints
Will surely fade from view.
So here's a special handprint
A memory that's true.
So you'll recall the very day
I made this just for you!

Here are my handprints
So tiny and small
The ones that clasped your hands Mommy and Daddy
The ones on the wall.

Press them in your memories Mommy and Daddy,
Press them in your heart
Never let go of me Mommy and Daddy,
Never let us part.

Right now they're good for touching
And crawling on the floors
Hold them tightly in your hands Mommy and Daddy
They fit so perfectly in yours.

Soon I'll be big like you,
Our hands will be the same
But you will always be my Mommy and Daddy,
And I will always proudly carry your name.

Two Little Hands
Two little hands go clap, clap, clap.
Two little feet go tap, tap, tap.
Two little hands go thump, thump, thump.
Two little feet go jump, jump, jump.
One little body turns round and round.
And sits quietly down.

Put Your Hands Up in the Air

Put your hands up in the air
Put your hands down on your nose
Put your hands up in the air
Now bend down and touch your toes
Everybody turn around
Now let's all jump up and down

Put your right hand in the air
Put your left hand in the air
Put your left hand in the air
Now put both hands on your hips
Everybody turn around
Now let's all jump up and down

Walk back quietly to your seat
Don't let the teacher hear your feet
Put your hands in your lap
Bow your head and take a nap
Bow your head and take a nap

Left/Right Hand Graph

Students can stamp the hand they write with.

Students can stamp their hands and then count by twos or explore pairs.

This is part of a "Measuring Me" book.

Use handprints to make a Fall tree display with whatever you would like listed on the handprints. This would be fun to have out at Open House and have visitors trace and cut their hand and then write something special about the student they are representing.

This activity would be fun to do when you explore fingerprints and how each of us has our own.
