"Getting
Ready" Classroom Photos
August 2004
I am planning
to create a book for my classroom titled "Mrs. Kugler gets
ready for Kindergarten" modeled after Miss Bindergarten.
I will choose a variety of photos that show the various
stages of getting my room ready.
I will add more
photos to my website as I make progress. Our school year starts
on September 1st.
Be patient - these
photos will take awhile to load.
You can see that
I have my work cut out for me. Lots of stuff to put away! We must
be sure that everything is off the floor since the custodians
clear the room to do the floors during the summer. I stack as
much as I can so they don't have to move anymore than they have
to into the hallway.
This area will
be the dramatic play area and the block corner. To the left of
the photo is by back door.
The "teaching
wall" has the white board that I will be teaching from when
children are working at their table. I have four large rectangle
tables that seat 4-5 kids each. I program the tables with letters,
numbers or sight words. That way we have instant practice everytime
we line up!
The island is
also stacked high with stuff. The white pocket chart stand is
actually a laundry rack from Wal-mart - it was around 9.99.
The left corner
here shows the bathroom and the main entrance door. The sink and
cupboards on the right are actually the island and behind it is
the cubbies. My computers will go on a table in one of the corners
to create a computer center. The apples on the cupboard doors
are the letters of the alphabet that create my word wall. My center
board is standing on the counter - I covered an old chart stand
with fabric and I pinned a calendar pocket chart to it and put
3x3 cards in the squares to create the choice board.

I am standing
by my white board in the front of the room looking towards the
back. My Story Corner/meeting place is in the back corner - my
rug isn't spread out yet.
Here is another
shot of what will be the Story Corner.
And we are back
to where we started. The big bulletin board that is covered is
where I display student work. I covered all of my bulletin boards
with fabric a couple of years ago and it works great! It
has held up really well.
This is my cubby
area - I use the coat rack mounted on the right wall for back
packs and cubbies for coats. We also store our resting mats and
our Read, Write and Rest boxes and pencil boxes in our cubbies.
