This is the "very simple" proposal that I submitted to our District Staff Development Committee. I wanted to promote literacy activities for the children that will be entering my Kindergarten classroom in the fall.
The evenings were delightful. The parents accompanied their children and I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the children and their families.

From Patsi Kugler When - Thursday, May 10, 2001
6:30-7:15 and 7:15 to 8:00 each evening Who - Children who will be
starting Kindergarten in the Fall of 2001 and their parents. What - Stories, songs, fingerplays and project centered around a book. Information for parents about Young Children and Literacy. An opportunity to work with and get to know children that will be starting school in the fall. A snack for participants. Where - Why - There are many activities that parents can participate in with their children that will promote their child's literacy development. I would like to model for them an adults role in literacy development, provide them with handouts and information and encourage them to read to their children. Cost - snack - cookies and juice
- $15.00 per night This could be considered a Best Practices Grant and funds can be applied through Staff Development. |
This is the invitation that was sent to all families to let them know about the events. I also personally invited them during our Kindergarten Round-up sessions. Families signed up at that time so that I could plan for materials.
