"Before" Classroom Photos

As of August 17th, all I have done is make a BIG mess!! :-)

I hope to add "after" photos sometime before the end of August. These photos will be placed in a PowerPoint that I will create with my students in September entitled "Mrs. Kugler Gets Ready for Kindergarten."

Be patient - these photos will take awhile to load.

The "back corner" that will become my Dramatic Play area.

The "back wall" area that will serve as a display for student work and writing. The left edge of the area will be a center table and to the right of the bulletin board will be the writing center.

The "other back corner" will hold the writing center and the word wall. In the Spring we must put everything up off the floor, anything on the floor goes in the hallway for several weeks while floors are being refinished. Therefore, I stack things high!

The "teaching wall" has the white board that I will be teaching from when children are working at their table. I have four large rectangle tables that seat 4-5 kids each. This year I plan to tape down name tags, a novel note shape for table label and a few other blank shapes that I can program as I like (with phone numbers, birthdays, or addresses). I bought the really wide tape from Really Good Stuff and plan to mount the things for the year and then use permanent marker to write on them and erase it with hair spray. I program the tables with letters, number and sight words. That way we have instant practice everytime we line up!

This corner is mine - there has been lots of discussion on the KinderKorner list serve about getting rid of teacher's desks, but I have to have my corner! I like my stuff! Of course, no Kindergarten teacher gets to sit down during the day!

This is the front wall and where I will have my story corner and group time. Two of the file cabinets hold my classroom library arranged alphabetically by author. Way to the left will be my computer center since I have outlets and network access there. The white board on the right will hold morning meeting stuff and chart paper. It is magnetic and versatile. To the right is the main classroom door and classroom bathroom.

The left corner here shows the bathroom and the main entrance door. The sink and cupboards on the right are actually the island and behind it is the cubbies. The boxes on my guided reading table are the new reading series. I now have all those materials put away! Hooray!

We are almost back to where we started! This area is my art area. Easels and a project table.

This area is the cubbie area and is behind the island, separate from the main classroom. I love the storage. We put our coats and things in the cubbies and hang our backpacks on the metal hooks to the right. That way our bags are easily accessible when we are digging for our snack. Each student has a cubbie where they keep their pencil box and their Read, Write and Rest box.
